Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun Review
Secrets Maroma Beach is considered one of the top adults only all inclusives in the Cancun area. It delivers a stunningly gorgeous beach, top notch service and delicious food and drinks. Overall, it is a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Let’s break it all down below!
Overview of Secrets Maroma Beach
If you’re dreaming of turquoise water, soft sand, and that effortless adults-only luxury vibe, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun delivers! Tucked along one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the Riviera Maya, this all-inclusive resort blends romantic ambiance with upscale dining, sprawling pools, and lush tropical grounds that feel both vibrant and serene. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or simply craving a sun-soaked escape without the party chaos, Secrets Maroma offers that sweet spot of relaxation, indulgence, and just enough fun to keep things interesting.
The Rooms at Secrets Maroma Beach
We booked the most basic level room at the resort. There was not a real ocean view, although you could see it off in the distance. This resort has a lot of vegetation and jungle views and our room felt very secluded/private. Most of the buildings at the resort are 3-4 stories high and obviously the buildings closer to the ocean are where the ocean front and better ocean view rooms are.
The room we were in was lovely. I truly appreciate the size of even the most basic rooms at this resort. No tiny little hotel rooms here!
Our room had a comfortable balcony with a table and chairs as well as a comfortable love seat. Additionally, we had ample seating space in the room as well.
Booking a Room on Points at Secrets Maroma
Secrets Maroma Beach is a part of the Hyatt All Inclusive Collection. The properties are assigned a category, letters A-F. A properties are the least expensive to book on points and F are the most expensive.
Secrets Maroma Beach is a category E property, so it will take quite a few points to book it. Standard rooms will be 35,000-45,000 points per night, depending on the night. This includes two adults. Suites, club rooms and rooms that cover 3 adults are all bookable with points but will cost more.

Here are some examples of various rooms bookable with points. We booked the standard Junior Suite Tropical View King, which is the most basic room bookable.
The Preferred Club Upgrade
Like many all inclusives, there is the option to upgrade to a preferred club room at Secrets Maroma Beach. This is bookable with points or cash. You will also automatically receive preferred club access if you have Globalist status with Hyatt or apply a Guest of Honor award to your booking.
What preferred club access will get you varies slightly by property. At Secrets Maroma Beach, this is what you can expect:
- More premium rooms and dedicated concierge per building to help with requests
- Complimentary 25 minute spa service (we had our concierge book this for us and enjoyed a lovely massage)
- Exclusive access to the an area of the beach that only preferred guests can access (right next to the other main beach area)
- An additional sit down breakfast restaurant that is limited to preferred guests only
- Club Lounge access (premium liquor, breakfast spread and snacks/desserts at various times of the day)
- VIP Check in – it was much quieter and faster than the main lobby check in. We found it to be a pleasant experience overall and nice for everyone in your party to have a drink/snack while checking in.
- Exclusive coupons for things like renting a cabana so your cost is a bit lower
I had Hyatt Globalist status when we visited the property, so we had preferred club access. I thoroughly enjoyed the massage and the breakfast restaurant. The preferred club areas seemed a bit quieter and not busy. However, I don’t think I would pay extra points or cash to upgrade, especially if you’re only staying a couple of nights. Obviously there are perks and it’s nice to have, but this resort had great food and amenities and you can thoroughly enjoy your stay without preferred club access.
The Pools and Beach
It was a little bit chilly for our stay (some cloudy mornings and in the 70s). This did not keep us from enjoying the pools and the beach, however we did find ourselves in the hot tub more than originally expected. We also liked the hot tub because it was in a more quiet, secluded area. Many times we went we were the only ones back there.
There are two main pools at Secrets Maroma. We visited in January and felt the pools were definitely warm enough for us to swim in, but they were not overly warm. The pools are steps away from the beach. We enjoyed the swim up bar and playing bingo while in the pool.
The pools are long and winding, I’m sure intentionally to provide as much space for chairs as possible. We didn’t reserve chairs early in the morning and didn’t have any issues finding them later on, but that could have been due to the cooler weather and a little less demand.
The beach is one of the best in the entire area. We visited in January and did have some sargassum (a brown seaweed) on the beach. The presence of sargassum is hard to predict and based very much on the wind and weather overall. It is typically worse during summer months, but can be present any time of the year. When sargassum in present, the resort does a great job working tirelessly to clean it up. We still walked the beach and were able to enjoy it!
The Food and Drinks
There are a ton of food options at Secrets Maroma Beach. We were there for three nights and explored different restaurants and choices daily to try as much as we could.
For breakfast, we did something different each day. One morning we were scuba diving and chose to order room service just for something quick while we were getting ready to go diving. The next morning we tried out the breakfast buffet at the World Cafe. The omelet station is always our go to at the buffet and it was perfection. Our final morning we ate at the restaurant for preferred guests by the beach. We loved the location at the preferred club restaurant and found that more relaxing than the buffet.
During the day, we were typically down at the pool. There are several options right there that are perfect for a quick, delicious lunch. Our favorite by far was the woodfired pizzas.
We did not make any dinner reservations any night we were at the property and had no problem getting right in when we arrived at the restaurants. If you want to book the hibachi table experience, that requires a reservation ahead of time.
The first night we were on the property we tried the Asian restaurant, Himitsu. The sushi rolls, chicken satay and curry were all delicious. My husband also loves sake so we paid extra for a bottle that night.
At the Italian restaurant, Portofino, the favorite dish was definitely the lamb ossobuco. It was tender and delicious. It was my husband’s favorite thing he ordered the entire trip. I had the chicken marsala and it was just ok. We loved dining out on the patio here and the service at the restaurant was great.
Our final evening we ate at the French restaurant, Bordeaux. The steaks and surf and turf were very good. No complaints here!
Activities at Secrets Maroma Beach
Secrets Maroma Beach has a LOT of activities on the property. We were only there for 3 nights so didn’t get to experience everything, but there are plenty of entertainment options and activities for people who like to be busy! Here are just a handful of the activities offered regularly at the property:
- Pool Bingo (we had fun doing this one day!) and water aerobics
- Live performances in the theater
- Mini Golf (this was a hit with my husband)
- All sorts of outdoor games like giant chess, ping pong, etc
- Organized craft offerings such as macrame, bracelet making, painting
- Bookable excursions, such as cenotes trips, catamarans, & deep sea fishing
- We were there during NFL football playoffs and they had a big screen set up in the sports bar, which was very fun
My husband and I are big scuba divers and that was one of the reasons we chose this resort. There is a dive shop at the resort next door (Pro Divers at Hotel Catalonia Playa Maroma). It was a short 5 minute walk for us to get there and made diving very easy.
All of that being said, this property has plenty to do – but is also perfect if you want to do nothing! The beach was pretty quiet and there are quiet areas around the property to relax if you aren’t into things like water aerobics! We loved the hammocks and quieter area near the hot tub.
Final Thoughts on Secrets Maroma Beach
Overall, this is one of the top resorts in the area for good reason. Just the simple fact that we can book a luxury resort like this on points and pay $0 out of pocket blows my mind still!
Secrets Maroma’s location is easily accessible from the Cancun airport, but it’s not in the crazy hustle and bustle of the Cancun hotel zone. It is perfect for couples, friends or honeymooners looking for a relaxing stay with delicious food and a great beach.
