Secrets The Vine Cancun Review
In this post: All the details about our 3 night stay at Secrets The Vine Cancun. We love taking short couples weekends away and Cancun is a very easy flight for us, so we travel there often. This trip was to celebrate my 40th birthday and an adults only luxury all inclusive stay was the perfect fit! My best friend and her husband came with us as well. I’ll get into all of the details, but we really enjoyed our stay!
Overview of Secrets The Vine Cancun
Secrets the Vine is located on the hotel strip in Cancun. As a Secrets resort, this property is part of the World of Hyatt loyalty program. It is an adults only all inclusive resort. Overall, I think it is perfect for couples who don’t need a lot of activities or action to enjoy themselves. It is a pretty calm, laid back resort.
The property has a nice little spot on the beach. It is not a sprawling, spread out resort, rather more of a high rise style building. This provides great views from the higher floors, overlooking both the ocean and the lagoon area.
One of the fun things about this property is its ‘wine theme’. Hence the name The Vine. There are wine tastings every afternoon. Several have no additional charge, while others have a fee. Many of the ones with a charge come with something additional such as a food (appetizers/snacks) pairing.
The Rooms at Secrets The Vine
One of the major benefits of having a high rise style resort like Secrets the Vine is the fact that all of the rooms have great views. No crappy interior rooms with no windows or jungle/parking lot views only here!
I haven’t seen all of the room types, but I will say that our room was beautiful! We had a preferred club room on the 24th floor. I appreciated that the room had many spaces to sit that weren’t on the bed. There was a small love seat, two chairs, an additional chaise lounge style chair and seating on the balcony. It made for a comfortable layout if we wanted to have friends in our room and not awkwardly have to sit on our bed.
My absolute favorite part of the room was our balcony. It felt spacious and we had a view that overlooked the neighboring Hard Rock resort. I appreciated the balcony views because we could easily see the ocean, the lagoon and we could enjoy both sunset and sunrise.
Food and Drinks
There are plenty of food and drink options at the property! Everything from the poolside grill, the coffee shop with light snacks to the formal dinners was wonderful.
We also spent a lot of time at the sports bar, as we were traveling during football season and are all big football fans. It was enjoyable and always had plenty of space available at the bar. We got some typical bar food there one night while enjoying a game.
There are two poolside bars, Manatees and Sugar Reef, as well as a beach bar. We typically were in chairs at the pool or beach and had great service with staff ready to bring us whatever we needed for drinks at any time. In the evening, we did visit the piano bar one evening for some entertainment and cocktails.
Buffet
We chose to eat at restaurants for lunch and dinners, but did the buffet for breakfast more than one day. It was fully stocked with everything you could want, including an omelet and made to order egg station. This is always our go to! We also loved the selection of pastries and fresh fruits that were regularly available.
Restaurants
Every night we ate a different restaurant, as we wanted to try as many different ones as we could! We all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes at Nebbiolo (the Italian restaurant), including pastas and pizza. We also got delicious creme brulee. One night we made reservations at Bluewater Grill and all enjoyed steak dinners. Olio was also delicious and offers some lovely Greek/Mediterranean dishes. This is also where they serve sit down breakfast for preferred club guests only and we found it delightful.
Room Service
I will admit, we are not big room service people. Most days when we are at an all inclusive we will head down to the buffet or a restaurant for breakfast, but getting room service and eating breakfast on our balcony was a fabulous experience at Secrets The Vine.
I will say that eggs and some dishes that can get cold quickly wouldn’t be my first choice, but a fruit plate, pastries and coffee on the balcony are a delightful way to start the morning. We did this early and then still headed to the buffet later in the morning for an omelet. Our friends that were with us said their room service breakfast was still warm and perfect when they had it out on their balcony!
One thing we loved doing for room service was getting a dessert or late night snack after a long day. The resort has iPads in the room that allow you to order from a limited late night menu and we ordered a snack or dessert to enjoy while having a final nightcap drink on our balcony!
Pools and The Beach
We loved our long walks along the beach at this resort! The resort itself does not have a large footprint directly in front of it, but it is open and we enjoyed walking along the long stretches of white sand beach in front of the surrounding properties. We visited in December and did not have any issue with any sargassum at all.
There are stairs from the main pool area down to the beach. There is a staff member who monitors guests and makes sure to document who is coming/going from the property.
There are 4 pools at the resort. One is a preferred pool that is only for guests with preferred club access. This is an infinity pool up on the 12th floor and it was a nice, quiet area every time we visited.
There are three pools on the main ground floor area of the property. Unlike many all inclusives, none of the pools have a swim up bar. We didn’t have any delays in getting served at all though and didn’t mind the lack of swim up bar. There is also a large hot tub my the main pool.
Booking Secrets the Vine on Points
You can easily book this resort with Hyatt Points! Hyatt all inclusive resorts are ranked by category and the categories range from A to F. Secrets the Vine Cancun is a category C resort, which means it is a midrange property.
If you are using World of Hyatt points, it will cost 21,000 to 29,000 points per night for a standard room, depending on the time of year and demand. We paid 25,000 points per night for our room (75,000 points total for 3 nights). There are additional room options, such as suites and club access rooms available to book with points as well. One of the best parts about booking with Hyatt points is that all taxes and fees are included. So we paid $0 out of pocket!
Wondering how to earn World of Hyatt Points? My favorite way is earning them from Chase credit cards such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred and then transferring them to Hyatt!
Preferred Club Access at Secrets the Vine Cancun
What preferred club access will get you varies slightly by property. At Secrets the Vine, this is what you can expect:
- Exclusive access to the infinity pool that only preferred guests can access
- An additional sit down breakfast restaurant that is limited to preferred guests only
- Club Lounge access (premium liquor, breakfast spread and snacks/desserts at various times of the day) – located on 21st floor
- Check in is also on the 21st floor in the lounge – it was much quieter and faster than the main lobby check in. We found it to be a pleasant experience overall and nice for everyone in your party to have a drink/snack while checking in.
- More premium rooms and dedicated concierge per floor to help with requests
I did not want to pay the extra points for a preferred club room. However, I did have a friend that gifted me a guest of honor award, which includes preferred club access. I cherish my Hyatt points too much and still wouldn’t pay for preferred club probably for a short trip, but it was nice to have.
Final Thoughts on Secrets the Vine Cancun
This is a no brainer for couples looking for affordable luxury. It is easily accessible to the airport and much less expensive than many of the other premium luxury properties in the area. We would definitely return, but probably won’t as we like to check out new places when we travel.
